The National Conference was held in Perth 31st August to 2nd September 2009
The opening Mass was celebrated by Assistant Bishop Sproxton in the beautiful Redemptorist Monastery Church. The Bambury Catholic Diocesan Liturgical Choir sang during Mass. Later we were invited to Royal Park for afternoon tea.
Monday 31st commenced with the procession of Banners, while the opening Liturgy was conducted by Father Laurence Murphy SDS National chaplain.
His Excellency Governor of W.A Mr. Michael officially opened the conference.
The members enjoyed excellent speakers all applying the theme “Walking with God” to their lives. Reports were received with great interest showing the interesting and hard work done by so many to make this great league of ours a success. Members from all over Australia, New Guinea and New Zealand travelled to Perth to participate in this event
Tuesday commenced with an uplifting Liturgy, then it was down to business. This session included more reports, a little light entertainment and guest speakers whose journey in life made me feel humble and realise how some of us take our faith for granted.
Wednesday. After the Liturgy, the scrolls containing thr names of deceased memmers were brought forward. Time was then allowed for group sharing of ideas, events and general discussion. This was very rewarding and enlightening.
More reports were presented and then the incoming CWLA National Executive for 2010-2011 were introduced.
The conference closed with mass celebrated by Fr. Laurence followed by the conference dinner. The time to say goodbye had come. many a little sad but all had enjoyed making new friends and catching up with old ones. Some of these friendships will be rekindled at the 45th National Conference in a few years.
This was my first National Conference sinc joining CWLA . I enjoyed it so much and learnt many things but especially knowing and being proud to be part of Catholic Women’s League Australia Inc.
